What does hope mean to chronically ill children, their families, and their caregivers? How does hope become a communal experience in the depths of suffering?
A soon to be released book by Rev. Dr. Duane R. Bidwell addresses these questions and more. The book’s title is lengthy and descriptive: After the Worst Day Ever: What Sick Kids Know About Sustaining Hope in Chronic Illness. The research is based on 51 conversations with children who have renal disease or are in need of dialysis or organ transplants. The experiences shared offer encouraging perspectives on cultivating hope.
Members and friends are invited to a conversation with the author, one of CPC’s own, on Sunday, March 17 at 8:45 AM (before Worship) in Room 1. Duane is a scholar, minister, and former hospital chaplain who is currently a faculty member of the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences. The publisher’s description of the book can be found here.
This program is part of the continuing Sunday morning engagement opportunities offered by the CPC Adult Education Committee.
