Bag-It Sunday, September 19 The CPC Board of Deacons is preparing for our annual "Bag-It Sunday" where we put together hygiene kits for homeless people who come to the Beta and Sova Centers that we support. We are looking for the following items (all in travel sizes) that you can pick up the next time you shop. Our goal is thirty kits. Please drop off your donations in the church office any day before September 19. For each kit: Washcloth, New Gym Socks, Toothbrush, Toothpaste, Emery Board, Shaving Cream, Disposable Razor, Kleenex Pack, Shampoo, Conditioner, Deodorant, Comb, Dental Floss, Hand Lotion CD Players and Sermons Do you have a small CD player gathering dust since you upgraded to an iPod? Bill Brinegar has copied sermons found on the CPC website to CD by month. The Deacons are making these CDs available to those unable to regularly attend services. For those who do not have a CD player, we hope to give new life to one you wish to donate. Please bring it to the church office. Miss a Sunday, want to share a sermon with a friend, or want to upload sermons to your iPod to enjoy on your walk or commute? The sermon CDs are available to everyone and can be picked up in the church office. Walk for the Hungry The Walk for The Hungry is October 10. This is an annual gathering of people from across the Pomona Valley to raise money for Inland Valley Hope Partners’ which operates three food pantries and an emergency shelter. This year’s walk has a fundraising goal of $100,000, the highest goal ever. But it’s reachable. It’s reachable by the Power of 10. Can 10 people from CPC do the walk? Can 10 youth? 10 Pilgrims? 10 families? Can those 10 get donations of at least $10 from at least 10 people? I think you get the idea. Mark 10/10/10 on your calendar, and if you’d like to take part, either by walking or donating, call or email Pastor Rocky at (909) 624-9693; rsupinger@claremontpres.org.
| | Interfaith Walk for Unity and Friendship A young man asked Jesus, "Who is My Neighbor?" On September 12, we will walk together in a witness to unity and friendship with our neighbors in Claremont/Pomona. The walk begins at 5:00 p.m. at Temple Beth Israel, continues north on Towne Avenue to Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, then west on Foothill to the City of Knowledge School and the Claremont Islamic Center, where the event ends with a shared meal. Walk with us! Gather at Temple Beth Israel, 3033 N. Town Avenue, Pomona, with your walking shoes and plenty of water. Eat with us! Even if you cannot join the Walk, we invite you to join us at the Claremont Islamic Center at 7:15 p.m. for our shared meal. CPCC Fundraiser at El Ranchero
Thank you to everyone who participated in the past two fundraisers for the Claremont Presbyterian Children’s Center at El Ranchero Restaurant on Foothill Blvd. in Claremont. We raised $400 each time! Those of you who missed out on the fun will have another opportunity in September. On Monday, September 13 from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. just eat at El Ranchero and tell them you are with CPCC. The center will receive 25% of the proceeds and you will enjoy a delicious Mexican meal. Newcomers' Orientation Would you like to learn more about Claremont Presbyterian Church? Newcomers are invited to gather in the church library following worship on Sunday, September 26 to meet our pastors and learn more about the history and the many ministries of our congregation. Information on becoming a member of CPC will be available for those interested. | | Donate Used Books Are books weighing down your shelves? The Prison Library Project uses your used books in two ways. Some get sent to inmates all over the country, to any prison that will accept our books. Others get sold at our intriguing book stall at Farmer’s Market, at our charming used book store in the PackingHouse, and at our wild, out of control, $1 Clearance Book Sales several times a year at the Packing House. This is a significant source of income for the Prison Library Project. We have to pay for postage somehow. You do not have to live with piles of books in the corners of your rooms, under your desk, hidden in closets, and packed away in boxes in your garage. Give your books the freedom they crave. Let them spread their message to new readers. Let them find new acceptance and affection. Honor the wisdom and value of your books by donating them. You have probably forgotten many of them. You don’t know their names, or their stories. Now is the time to let them go. You can drop your books off at the Thoreau Book store in the Packing House, and get a receipt for your tax deductible donation, or you can say goodbye to your books by leaving them in the office at Claremont Presbyterian Church.
